Thought

A dear friend invited me to go to church this morning. It was Presbyterian with all its roots in Calvinism, and it was communion. The altar was covered with white cloth, and so were the pews. The minister struggled to define the etymological meaning of ‘messiah.’ Then, he pointed to the altar and said, ‘Jesus Christ is there, right now, hic et nunc.’ Then my mind went astray. Why has God, if there is One, taken such distance from humankind and all creatures, biologically similar to humans? With distance as such, humans are left to chase God with one single weapon: hope.
